Arizona Secretary of State Requests Investigation into Former President Trump and Allies for ‘Election interference’

Katie Hobbs, the Arizona Secretary of State who recently launched a bid for governor, sent a letter to Attorney General Mark Brnovich and requested that he open an investigation into former President Donald Trump and his allies over allegations of “election interference.”

“I urge you to take action not only to seek justice in this instance, but to prevent future attempts to interfere with the integrity of our elections. If your ethical duties prevent you from investigating this matter, I ask that you refer it to another enforcement agency,” Hobbs said in her letter to Brnovich.

The request submitted by Hobbs cites a report issued by The Arizona Republic, which claims Trump, Kelli Ward, and others attempted to contact election supervisors in Maricopa County.

However, according to the report, neither of President Trump’s phone calls were answered, and he did not speak to the election official.

Hobbs believes these actions are a “potential” violation of Arizona election law.

However, Arizona GOP chairwoman Ward denied the allegation brought forth in the report. In a tweet attached to The Republic story, she simply said, “BS.”

The next day Ward issued another tweet. “No one can ever say that I am not doing everything I can to assure #ElectionIntegrity. And I always will!”

Brnovich, who — like Hobbs — is jockeying for another office, has not publicly acknowledged the request from the Secretary of State.

On the contrary, Trump has also encouraged Brnovich to open an investigation, for a different reason, into the integrity of the 2020 election.

“Additionally, seals were broken on the boxes that hold the votes, ballots are missing, and worse. Mark Brnovich, the Attorney General of Arizona, will now be forced to look into this unbelievable Election crime,” Trump said earlier this year when discussing the continued audit of ballots in Maricopa County.
